moving forward

hi beautiful people! we are back with yet another #NewMusicMonday! this week, I’m tapping into a completely new artist for me. he goes by Jordan Ward, and today we’re talking about his project “moreword(FORWARD)”

I was introduced to Jordan Ward but my cousin who’s probably more into music than I am. before listening, I think I was expecting a pure r&b album, probably because that’s what it’s listed under in Apple Music. upon first listen, I was a bit confused. I didn’t think it was bad, but I was confused because it was an entirely new sound than what I’ve been consuming recently. and it also was not 100% r&b

this project explores so many sounds in genres in under 40 mins. its’ replay value is immaculate, after the first listen I had to run it back twice in a row. Jordan plays with interesting sounds and instruments to invoke a feeling of nostalgia whilst rhyming melodically about his family, love life, and personal growth. the song “FAMJAM4000” is a favorite of mine for its’ upbeat pace, horns, and vocal stacking. even more so because he’s singing about the struggles of wanting to be closer to his family with lines like “Can we bring the love back?” and “I could be all around the world but without family, it don’t mean anything”

I think I fell in love so quickly with this project because once I understood it and Jordan’s artistry, I heard so much of my life stories in the music. this is a perfect project for those in their 20’s trying to figure it all out, going through the motions. there is a song in here for everyone as he’s found a way to curate his own sound while still keeping that nostalgic vibe.
