hi beautiful people! let’s pretend today is monday and get into our very first New Music Monday! this week, we’re diving headfirst into “I Came Home Late” by the international artist, Ama Lou.
let’s start with the fact that this is an excellent debut album. from top to bottom i’d say this is a cohesive yet diverse piece of work. i was first introduced to Ama Lou this summer when she went viral on twitter for her music video for “Silence”. she caught everyone’s attention with dramatic dancing in the rain, a unique yet familiar sound, and physical features resemblant to those of Zendaya (the British Rue, if you will). naturally, i couldn’t wait to hear more and was ecstatic to know I found a new artist for my playlists.
“I Came Home Late” is the perfect album for the fall. the rawness in her lyrics paired with the mid-tempo pace sets the scene of crisp autumn air with colorful trees in the background. every year, i feel it’s necessary to create a new playlist when I’m entering a new season. naturally, my return to school prompts a new sound to match the vibe! this albums’ been on repeat since it’s early september release, and definitely will continue to play through the end of the year.
songs like “Bad Weather”, “Frustration”, and “Real Life” are perfect for that rainy day when you don’t wanna leave the house, but also have the busiest day ever. they’re like a tight warm hug in the cold. songs like “Played Me” and “Range 95′” make you wanna speed down the highway with all the windows down. this project has me super excited for Ama Lou’s career, as well as the r&b scene over in England! let me find out!!
